Park Yoga session

At Park Yoga we think there’s something really special about practicing yoga outdoors.  We’re so excited to be opening up our 2025 season with new venues so we can make free outdoor yoga accessible to even more people this summer.

Its not just for the super flexible hardcore yogi’s – Outdoor yoga is for everyone, and here’s why we think you should give it a try:

  1. Fresh Air = Better Breathing

We love the yoga studio but indoor air can feel a little stale. Practicing outside means you’re getting a fresh supply of oxygen, which helps improve your lung function and but more importantly it really enhances your overall sense of well-being.

Plus, taking deep breaths of fresh air just feels really good! Annnnd Exhaaaale it out with a sigh…. Now, How good did that feel?

  1. Nature Enhances Relaxation

There’s a reason why so many meditation soundtracks feature birds chirping or ocean waves. Nature has a proven calming effect on the mind. When you practice yoga outdoors, you’re surrounded by natural sights and sounds that help you relax more deeply – no playlist required!

There’s a good chance you might encounter some park wildlife too – some of our sites have regular seagulls or squirrels in attendance. We think this just adds to the fun and helps us feel more connected.

  1. It Challenges Your Balance

Uneven ground, a slight breeze, or the warmth of the sun on your skin -these little environmental factors engage your muscles in new ways. Even if you’re a regular at the yoga studio -those poses are going to feel completely different on the grass compared to a studio floor. But that’s a good thing! It keeps your practice fresh and challenges your body in ways you wouldn’t expect.

  1. The Sun is a Natural Mood Booster

Sunlight helps your body produce vitamin D, which is essential for bone health, immunity, and overall happiness. Plus, a little sunshine can do wonders for lifting your mood, which makes outdoor yoga a great way to start your Sunday on a positive note.

We know that the Great British weather can be a little unreliable. If its slightly cooler than you expected just bring along socks and a cosy hoodie maybe even a blanket for Savasana, you’re still going to reap all the benefits of a boost of Vitamin D.

We do recommend to bring a water bottle and always wear SPF if we do have a really sunny day.

  1. It’s a Great Digital Detox – a chance to unplug and connect:

And we all need one right?! The 24/7 digital world can be so overwhelming. We spend so much time staring at our screens. Taking your practice outside is a chance to unplug, gaze into the distance and be fully present. Take an hour for yourself, no pings, no notifications… its so good to give yourself a break and clear your mind.

There’s something about being outside that reminds you of the bigger picture. Whether it’s feeling the earth beneath your feet or watching the clouds move as you lie out in Savasana, outdoor yoga has a way of making you feel more connected to yourself, to nature, and to the world around you.

We’re so lucky to have so many green spaces in our towns and cities. Take the chance to appreciate your local area. There is a beautiful, calming, open space waiting for you and you never know (added bonus!)  you might just meet some new local friends with shared interests.

Bring your mat (or don’t -bare feet on grass is also great), take a deep breath, and go with the flow. Your mind and body will thank you for it.
