Meet your instructor: Alyssa
Alyssa began practicing yoga in her teens as a way to slow down and reconnect, and quickly fell in love with how it made her feel both physically and mentally. She truly believes that yoga is for everyone and every body, whether you come for movement, stillness, strength, or simply a moment to breathe.
She is passionate about creating a welcoming and supportive space where you can show up exactly as you are and take what you need from the practice. Practicing outdoors is something she especially loves, as it brings a deeper sense of connection to both yourself and the natural world.
Outside of yoga, Alyssa loves to travel, read books & spend time walking or hiking (in the sunshine preferably!).
🌬️ The science of breathing… and why we focus on it so much in yoga.
Did you know that the way you breathe can actually change how you feel?
When we’re stressed, we naturally take shorter, faster breaths. This signals to our nervous system that we’re under pressure, keeping our body in “fight or flight” mode.
But when we slow our breathing do, especially making the exhale a little longer than the inhale, we send a different message: you’re safe.
This activates our parasympathetic nervous system, often called our “rest and digest” mode, helping to: 🌿 Lower stress levels 💚 Reduce heart rate 🧠 Improve focus and mental clarity 😌 Release physical tension ✨ Leave us feeling calmer and more grounded
That’s why, in yoga, we don’t just move, we breathe with intention. Every inhale creates space, every exhale invites us to soften.
So next time life feels a little overwhelming, pause for just a minute. Breathe in slowly for four counts, then breathe out for six. You might be surprised by how much difference sixty seconds can make.
We’ll be practising mindful movement and breath together at Park Yoga this Sunday. Whether you’re completely new to yoga or you’ve been practising for years, you’re always welcome 💚🌳 ... See MoreSee Less
Episode 3 of our alignment series… Triangle Pose 🔺🌿
Did you know your hand doesn’t have to reach the floor?!
In Triangle Pose, the priority is creating length through the side body, not forcing yourself deeper, just to get your hand lower.
✨ Keep your front knee soft rather than locking it if you need ✨ Reach your top arm towards the sky (look up to those top fingers!) ✨ Lengthen through both sides of your waist, open the chest and feel a twist ✨ Let your bottom hand rest wherever feels right — shin, prop (like a block if you have one), or floor ✨ Think about your torso moving long, rather than collapsing forwards
Remember: alignment isn’t about making your body fit the pose. It’s about adapting the pose to fit your body 💚
Join us for Park Yoga and explore movement that works with your body, not against it.
