“heartfelt * connecting* inspiring.” – This is from the feedbacks of my regular students about my weekly sessions. I am Martina and teach Yoga since completing training courses in Austria and UK since 2011. I am a member of Yoga Alliance UK for Yoga and Children’s Yoga.

I fell in love with Yoga almost 20 years ago and am passionate practitioner ever since and believe Yoga has something for everyone. In my teaching I like to nurture a sense of wellbeing and calm and to connect Yoga to day-to-day life experiences. When I began with Yoga a wonderful journey inwards began and Yoga revealed its various benefits to me supporting me in times of change, challenge and growth.

I also hold a degree in Social Pedagogy specialist in humanistic counselling, health promotion, education and community work. I have successfully integrated Yoga and Mindfulness practice in my work with children, young people and their carers for many years to strengthen resilience and a positive sense of self in overcoming traumatic life experiences.

I offer classes for adults, children, teens, Yoga for precarious times (breast cancer recovery) and Wellbeing courses for carers. I teach weekly classes in Melksham and in Chippenham, and since the beginning of the Corona virus pandemic also online.

Good evening, Park Yoga Devizes community,

This week’s Mental Health Awareness Week highlights the importance of taking care of our mental health as much as our physical health. Yoga can be a beneficial approach in that because it helps reduce stress, which significantly impacts mental health. For those who struggle with anxiety or feeling overwhelmed, regular yoga practice can be helpful too.

How can yoga support your mental health?

Yoga can trigger the release of chemicals in the brain that improve mood, such as dopamine, serotonin, and norepinephrine. All those happy endorphins! Although yoga movements are slow and controlled, they elevate the heart rate, engage muscles, and stimulate the release of these “feel good” brain chemicals. As a result, yoga can enhance mood.

The tightening and relaxing of muscles can reduce both physical and mental tension. This, combined with self-awareness gained through yoga practice, can help alleviate feelings of stress and overwhelm.

Yoga can also reduce and ease anxiety. The pranayama (breathing practice) in yoga can be effective, as it activates the parasympathetic nervous system (rest and digest) rather than the sympathetic nervous system (fight or flight), which predominates when we are anxious.

Additionally, yoga can help improve sleep. Sleep plays a vital role in good health and well-being throughout life. During sleep, the body supports healthy brain function and maintains physical health.

Hope that gives you some good reasons on why to do yoga. 😀

Sunday morning at Hillworth Park.
9.30 am – 10.30 am

I will have with me this week the first samples of our new sponsor Yogi Tea. This week you can taste the tea with which the YOGI TEA® story began. More information soon.
I do love those teas, not only the flavour but also the little inspiration which come with them and even some suggestions for a yoga practice.
.
Enjoying my cuppa now,

Martina

Park Yoga Devizes

A wonderful Park Yoga morning in Devizes today on a glorious sunny Sunday. Thank you ever so much for being there and for making with your presence this mornings so special.

We had many familiar faces and a few who joined for the very first time. Is so wonderful to see our Park Yoga community growing. Thank you!

Being out in nature is very nurturing and gives us so much to remind us of, to reconnect with and to take learning from. Our inspiration for today:

Let the trees teach you growth requires patience.
Let the wind teach you, you can change direction and speed as you desire.
Let the flowers teach you, beautiful things don’t bloom all year.
Let the ocean teach you, you can be both calm and chaos, gentle and strong
Let the clouds teach you when things get too heavy, it’s time to release.
Let the stars teach you darkness is needed to see the light.
Let the sun teach you no matter how long you’ve been hidden, you’ll always rise again...

Have a wonderful Sunday,

Om shanti om is the mantra we are chanting together at the beginning and end of our sessions to contribute to an energy of peace on this conflict-ridden planet.

Tomorrow, we celebrate 80 years since the end of the Second World War in Europe. The end of a dictatorship which blinded most of a whole nation into believing that war was necessary and caused unimaginable suffering, terror, and destruction. While we are remembering those who lost their lives, the victims of the war, we are also celebrating 80 years of peace. It marks a change in political interaction, a dialogue between nations, and a commitment from all to ensure that such atrocities never happen again. “Lest we forget” encapsules this very strongly, to keep remembering the past tragedy and sacrifice and ensure that such bloody catastrophe never happens again.
Yet, there is still war, still individuals or groups deciding to use violence to expand their power. I feel it so is important to remember where such actions can lead if not stopped and to reflect on the lessons learned from history. May we honour the memory of those who suffered by striving to build a world of compassion, understanding, and enduring peace.

Take the opportunity to come together in your community and in connection with others to mark this special day or take some quiet moment to yourself to reflect. Whatever you decide bring to mind how you can contribute to more peace.

Let's chant "Peace, peace, peace" together again, on Sunday 9.30 am - 10.30 am at Hillworth Park for our next Park Yoga session.

Sending Love & light,

Martina 🧘‍♀️🧘‍♂️🌳🕊

Thank you Devizes for the warm excited welcome to our new Park Yoga season! It was just magical.🙏 🌳🧘🏼‍♀️
The first picture shows the moment when the Hillworth Park started filling ... the anticipation grew....more participants kept coming.... We did our tree pose amongst the trees as a group of 161 wonderful people.

I was very touched and looking forward to many more Sundays over this summer. It was lovely to catch up with familiar and new participants. The buzz was great and everyone was just saying how lovely it is to be back at the park & doing yoga again. For 17 the first time, for others the 2nd, 3rd, 4th or 5th year with Park Yoga Devizes. Keep speading the word 🙏

I hope you enjoy the rest of your bank holiday weekend. Hopefully sunshine will be back soon. 😊
